'Well I'll be"

That's me. Yep, that's what I said. The guy on the right. Let me explain. So I signed up for this free trial online and when I sent the package back it "apparently" got lost in the mail. The company charged me $78 bucks for a CD; one silly CD. I called and complained and the guy just shot me down and said "NO NO NO" to everything I threw at him. It was time for "Ban Awkell" to make a little call to the company. It is kind of hard for me to confront people and speak my mind on the phone-unless I speak in a southern drawl- that is. The next time I called I had this thick accent and felt more able to communicate everything. And still they continued to deny me saying there was nothing the could do. At one point I said "You took 78 dolla, how am I supposed to affoed a tucky dinna for Thanksgiven" It was very fun to play this character and I am sure the customer service reps on the other end enjoyed it as much as I did. In the end, I ended up getting $35 refunded to my credit card, and I honestly believe I wouldn't have if I had not changed the sound of my voice.

One more pet peeve

Okay, so I love everyone who is reading this blog. I love the whole world. I am not writing this for any particular person or group of people, I am writing it to the whole world. I have a hard time in certain situations because I don't watch a lot of things other people do. Luckily we have some friends that we hang out a bunch with and they are wonderful people. On top of that, they think the same way about a great majority of things that we do, especially media, and it makes being around them even nicer. I consider myself to be pretty "Law of Mosesy" but sometimes I think I am outdone by this couple. We were talking about a "problem" I have of fibbing to my children and this friend said to me "It's sounds like you know it is wrong, so why don't you just stop". It was a kick upside the head, but I liked it.

My feeling is that so many of us-especially when media is involved-have to know that some things are not "right", and yet we consume them anyway. My challenge to you all would be this-read the following scriptures, and ask yourself if the things you consume in the media are in alignment with what we profess to believe.

Article of Faith #13
If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report
or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Moroni 7
16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man,
that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge;
for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ,
is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a
perfect knowledge it is of God.
17 But whatsoever thing
persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve
not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after
this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not
one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.

Again, this is not "Ben's blog of guilt", but it is my opinion and google has allowed me this space to post whatever I want. My favorite scripture is in Alma 5:57 and it contains the following line-it roughly says "All you that are desirous to follow the voice of the Good Shepherd, come ye out from the wicked, and be ye separate, and touch not their unclean things". The morals of the world keep declining and we are jumping on the train with them. It's time we said "Stop this train Mr Conductor, we'll walk from here on out." (was that a cheesy way to end this post or what)
Let me restate, this post is not aimed at any one specific person, place, or thing. Let me restate also, that I am a great sinner and Jesus is a great Savior. (Amazing Grace, 2007)

Keep up the good "work"

I am probably going to offend some people in the world with this post, but I need to get back to basics with this blog. It's about my opinions. So here goes. I just want to say how happy I am that writers across America are on strike and picketing. Let me tell you how much it has affected me; it hasn't. The funny part of it all is hearing everyone in a frenzy because their favorites shows are in reruns and they can't handle life without their favorite TV shows. I rarely watch TV. All I need is sports and Biggest Loser-and if those writers go on strike, no worries, I am sure I can find some fat people to exercise in front of a camera. Most of you in the world watch too much TV anyways, it's good for you to take a break.

The best comparison I can make to all the reactions I am hearing from people about how horrible this strike is would be when the Coke machine at work is empty. All the women at work who drink 6 Diet Coke's a day and say they are not addicted-they completely lose it when they see that red light glowing. They're speeding off to Wal-mart, making calls to their husbands(well actually, they were all divorced at least once-so maybe they called a neighbor) to come bring them some Coke. They go nuts. I am not suggesting in any way that caffeine is addictive.

Because it is clearly not. Just asks Angela down below. It's just coincidence that she is ripping her hair out of her scalp at the same time she hasn't had a diet coke for 2 hours.

In conclusion. I hate writers of TV shows. I hate diet Coke. But I love all who consume one or both. I am not judging anyone, because I have my weaknesses and if Internet service providers went on strike I would be bald within an hour.

I won!

Yeah, I won! The last blog I posted of the video of my friend advertising her topless undershirt, I posted it because they were having a contest. I posted it and was entered into a drawing to win 2 free shirts. I won! I love winning things. So, when I get them in the mail, I will post a picture of me wearing them.

I hacked into Ben's blog to post this. He didn't want me to. But take a look at this video. It is of a friend of mine, Katie Matteson, on Good Things Utah advertising her company, Blush, that sells the topless undershirt. It's actually a pretty cool thing she came up with - www.toplessundershirt.com.
